On this day, I not only performed my sixth Open Mic set but also met with my landlords to sign some documents. One of them, Tony, a 92-year-old who once was the Supreme Court Justice of Zimbabwe under Robert Mugabe, chatted with me along with his wife, Sue, our other landlord. They spoke kindly and encouraged me not to give up on writing, insisting I have a deep talent. “Never give up,” Tony said, adding that we are incredible tenants. Having someone of Tony’s stature believe in me and my work feels amazing. I’m deeply grateful for their encouragement. When it was time to leave, Tony shook my hand.
