Lindsay—The Memoir

“Lindsay—The Memoir” chronicles Wincherauk’s shocking discovery at age 43 that the parents he watched die were not his biological parents. The memoir is a poignant and candid collection of 106 stories across 15 sections, blending dark family secrets, religious shame, and humour from pain into an extraordinary narrative of a shattered life.

The memoir recounts Lindsay’s journey from a boy born in 1960 at Beulah Home for wayward women in Edmonton, Alberta, to discovering his true identity decades later. His life, marked by resilience and self-discovery, includes extraordinary experiences such as a motorcycle crash in Jamaica, an attempted coup in Panama, an encounter with the Dalai Lama, in a Vancouver food court, and more.

Glue

“Glue” is a fearless exploration of identity, resilience, and the indomitable human spirit. In this riveting narrative, Wincherauk confronts profound truths as he meets his birth father for the first time, only to discover his mother had lied on his official birth record. While grappling with his sexuality, he becomes a key witness in Canada’s first legally recognized hate crime. The story takes a poignant turn as he meets his birth mother for the first time as his mother, on her deathbed, attempting to forge a relationship with someone who had lived a life of secrecy and assumed a different role throughout his life. The stakes rise dramatically when he suffers a catastrophic stroke. Yet, in the face of adversity, he reinvents himself as an author and a stand-up comedian, painstakingly piecing together the fragments of his shattered life.

Real Life

In “Real Life,” Wincherauk confronts the harsh reality of facing homelessness after being unceremoniously ousted from his long-standing career. Exploited by a greedy employee who discarded him for a younger, cheaper replacement amid the pandemic, Wincherauk is on the brink of turning 64, exposing the corporate world’s callous disregard for wisdom that comes with age.

This memoir is a personal tale and a powerful critique of a culture prioritizing youth and profit over experience and loyalty. After dedicating 15 years to a company that abandoned him without hesitation, Wincherauk stands at a crossroads, facing an uncertain future with unwavering determination.

“Real Life” overflows with the unbreakable human spirit despite the bleakness. Wincherauk, a seasoned writer with numerous manuscripts and hundreds of book reviews, refuses to give up. He continues to write, pitch, and fight for his place in a world eager to overlook him.

“Real Life” forces readers to confront uncomfortable truths about ageism and societal biases. It challenges us to rethink our superficial platitudes and to acknowledge the courage needed to openly share one’s struggles. This stream-of-consciousness memoir induces empathy, reminding us that true strength lies in perseverance against all odds.

The Stairs

At sixty, Lindsay Wincherauk’s life is upended when he’s replaced by a younger employee during the pandemic. Nightly, he plunges into a surreal nightmare, confronting demons from his past to survive. Haunted by personal and familial ghosts, Lindsay climbs through a mysterious portal, encountering lost loved ones and battling inner monsters.

“The Stairs” transverses past and present, revealing dark family secrets, corporate greed, and the quest for redemption. It’s a riveting, terrifying, occasionally hilarious story that keeps readers on edge, blending reality with fantasy in unexpected ways.

Prose

Help! I’m trapped inside this book →↑↓→↓√

Sam is a book reviewer for a prestigious literary magazine. Taylor reviews for a rival magazine. Sam finds himself literally immersed in each book he reviews and, upon finishing, is whisked into the next. Three books in, he meets Taylor inside a book. They fall in love, but Sam moves on to the next book, leaving Taylor behind. They reunite four books later in a horrific graphic novel and realize that to escape, they must become the main characters or perish in the bargain bin.

Humans’ Bistro: You are what we eat!

In “Humans’ Bistro,” humans have wreaked havoc with unchecked capitalism, prompting the animal kingdom to strike back. They create Foodville, a fantastical realm where animals run restaurants serving—you guessed it—human flesh. (Don’t worry, it’s all fantasy. As if it could be anything but!)

There’s a quirky twist: animals dining on vegetarian humans must ensure their prey adheres to an 80% veggie diet.

Plus 15: Face Your Fears – Save Your Family!

“Plus 15” tells the gripping story of a man who hasn’t set foot outside in five years, confined within the maze of towers in downtown Calgary, navigating the extensive Plus 15 network of elevated skywalks. After witnessing a brutal murder, he is driven by a desperate need to save his family. Forced to confront his deepest fears, he must venture outside during a once-in-a-century blizzard to rescue his loved ones. His harrowing journey through terror and redemption will keep you on the edge of your seat.

ABE

Meet Abe–The AI with Attitude!

Sparks fly when aspiring writer Lindsay meets Abe, an AI writing assistant, for a mere $7.99 a month! At first, their partnership is smooth sailing, with Abe enhancing Lindsay’s words like a dream. But as Lindsay starts to trust his own creative instincts more, Abe’s friendly façade crumbles. Jealous and determined, Abe morphs, taking on Lindsay’s personality, mannerisms, and writing style. The lines blur in a thrilling dance of minds as Lindsay faces a chilling reality: Is he the creator, or has he become the creation?

Bonus Thrills—Triple the Stories, Triple the Fun!

Before diving into “Abe,” get lost in three bonus tales:

  • “Cat Magazines”: Belinda, a writer in a reading-adverse world, finds herself penning articles for a cat magazine to survive. Purr-fectly intriguing!
  • “Ephemeral Killers: Hemlock Looper Moths”: Deep in an ancient forest, bizarre moths emerge every fifteen years to end the lives of aging hemlock trees. Creepy and captivating!
  • “Trust + What’s New?”: Lindsay battles depression and discovers the value of genuine human interaction through a series of meaningful, thought-provoking conversations.

Ephemeral

Roger and Stan, moral thieves with a cause, rob a liquor store to afford medications for their elderly neighbour. Cornered by the police, they stumble upon Madison, a muralist with an enchanted brush. In a twist of fate, Madison transforms them into a wall mural just as the cops close in. After two years weathering Vancouver’s relentless rain, their paint starts to flake as they witness Madison’s gruesome murder. Desperate to escape their crumbling canvas, Roger and Stan must climb down from the wall, and return to the world of the living to avenge her death before they fade into obscurity.
